About Us

What is the Canadian Research Initiative in Substance Matters (CRISM)?

The Canadian Research Initiative in Substance Matters (CRISM) is Canada’s national research-practice network dedicated to substance use and related harms. The network includes over 1000 research scientists, service providers, decision makers, and people with lived experience of substance use. CRISM includes five regional Nodes (BC, Prairies, Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic), and was established by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research in 2015, following a competitive, peer-reviewed process to select regional hubs.

What are the goals of CRISM?

The overall goals of the CRISM network are to identify, develop, and enhance prevention and treatment interventions for substance use, provide evidence to decision makers and service providers, and to improve quality of care and quality of life for Canadians who use substances.
